Born and raised to two parents (Sebastian and Maria), with an older brother (Kylar) and sister (Thelia), Gabriel had a happy childhood. His whole family consisted of well-bred mages, and Gabriel was no exception. He took to magic quickly and easily, and though he was decent with all forms, soon grew to favor light magic over the others. His instructors all praised him for his skills and crowed that he would someday be one of the great sages of Kilia. His family was very proud of him, and he even tutored his older brother in the use of light magic. He took an interest in politics and foreign relations, and studied every subject that he could with great fervor. He did well in all his studies, and was settling in, ready to take his knowledge to the world even though he was still young. His life was happy, and everything was going on the right track.

Then, one day when he was 17 years old, he was informed by a concerned friend that his family was plotting to have him killed. Hesitant at first, he was eventually convinced that the best course of action was to kill them in order to ensure his own safety.

A few nights later, the neighbors of Gabriel's family found his parents and siblings dead, killed by magic, and Gabriel nowhere in sight.

Upon telling his informant and "friend" what had taken place, he came to the knowledge that the other was actually a longtime rival of his parents, and had formed a relationship with Gabriel in order to kill his parents and siblings. Gabriel was struck with inaction and terror, horrified by what he had just done. The other man vanished from Gabriel's life shortly afterward, but the damage was done. Gabriel's family was dead, and he was a prime suspect in their murder. He could never go home again.

He fled to Korin and has been traveling there in the years since, and is now 21 years old. He has changed vastly since discovering that he mistakenly killed his own family. His magic skills have vastly gone to waste, and he's lucky to be able to cast off simple spells on most days.

.personality.

Gabriel was previously calm, collected, and friendly, with a smile that could light up a room and a cheerful demeanor that could calm even the greatest of beasts. He was studious and devoted, determined to make his family proud of him in everything he did. He was also remarkably intelligent, grasping hard principles of magic, science, and history with fair ease.

Now, Gabriel is still calm and collected, but seems very detached almost all of the time. While the things he says might make sense, often they're clouded by his own special breed of madness and come out sounding rather uninterested or childish. Many of the things he asks about or says come out sounding like something a six- or seven-year old would ask. All the same, he's still much smarter than he seems, and grasps things well. He's just reverted to the mental state of a young boy.

Despite knowing it was his longtime enemy that led him into killing his family, Gabriel blames himself. They were the people he cared about and trusted most, and he believes that if he had been more trusting or less concerned about pleasing his "friend," then he wouldn't have made such a mistake. He tends to be very distant and untrusting now, cautious of anyone who claims to be a friend or an ally.

He still smiles often. But now it's broken and sad, as opposed to his previously vibrant smiles.

Occassionally, he has delusions that his family is still alive.

He's very thin, almost dangerously so, from his years in Korin, and also because he eats little to begin with. He has long blonde hair, falling over his shoulders, a very pale complexion, and slanted brown eyes. He tends to wear very loose, pale clothing, that isn't appropriate for the cold weather of Korin at all.
